12/09/2008 Game On! Test Drive New Video Games Thursday
Free and open to the public from 9 to 5 Thursday in the atrium of UNM's
Electrical & Computer Engineering Department, the second annual Video Game
Competition is being presented by students in the Introduction to Computer
Graphics class.
During this daylong extravaganza, the students will show off and let you
test play video games that they produced in just one month as their senior
project in the class, ECE/CS 412.
We believe that you will be impressed with the results.
Several games are competing, and your feedback is invited before the
judges choose the "best of" games. What better feedback can the students
receive than your real-life impressions?
You'll play the games on your choice of four or five HDTVs with the games
playing from both XBOX360s and PCs.
If you are interested in game development or in playing video games – or
you just need a quick break from studies for finals week – come and see
what our students were able to achieve in only one month. Drop by at any
time and check it out!
Where: ECE Building atrium (#46 on UNM campus map)
When: Dec. 11, 2008, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The judging session from 5 to 6:30 p.m. is also open to the public: the
student teams will describe how they developed their games, and prizes
will be awarded.
Directions to the ECE building can be found here. This event is
sponsored by ECE's Advanced Graphics Lab.
Last year a few hundred people came by and the event was covered in the
nightly news. Check out the broadcast here.
-- Also, a videotaped report was produced by UNM for YouTube and can be
seen on UNM's site here and on YouTube:
-- To hear a 40-minute podcast interview that UNM conducted with ECE
Professor Pradeep Sen last year, go here. In the interview, Dr. Sen
talks about what digital media and computer graphics are, the
collaboration on digital media between engineers and artists at UNM, and
job prospects for graduates.
