Rankings Show Increased Awareness of ECE's Strengths

The Electrical & Computer Engineering Department is pleased to report that its Electrical Engineering graduate program has once again moved up in U.S. News & World Report's rankings, which were just published for 2009.

The EE program is ranked #32 among public universities, which is #55 among all U.S. universities that were ranked for their electrical engineering program. This ranking is two levels higher than the previous year's, which was an increase of four levels over 2007, which was in turn three levels over the 2006 ranking. Academics across the country are clearly beginning to see what is unique about this program and its impressive faculty.

The U.S. News rankings for individual programs are based on a perception score of 1 to 5. ECE's Computer Engineering graduate program went from a perception score of 2.6 last year to 2.5 this year. The program's ranking is #43 among public universities and #72 overall, which is also a well-earned ranking for this rapidly growing program. It ranks on a par with the University of Texas at Dallas, the University of Missouri at Columbia, and the universities of Kansas and Connecticut.

ECE has the only EE graduate program and also the only CompE graduate program in the state of New Mexico that are ranked by U.S. News & World Report.

Congratulations to everyone in the department -- faculty, students and staff -- for continuing to build both of our programs into exciting, dynamic experiences for our researchers and students.
